Prophet’s Mosque (al-Masjid al-Nabawi), Medina, Saudi Arabia

Jay Bonner was contracted to design the rainwater runoff grates for the flat roof of the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina. These were designed in a geometric style associated more typically with wood window grilles. They were fabricated in cast aluminum, and a requisite aspect of the design was for the openings to be small enough that toes would not be entrapped.

Completed in 1999.
